No, just running away from a threat is not a real plan.

You're out of shape. Your idea of exercise is watching sports. Your attacker is foghorn leghorn blowing his top. Are you going to outpace this hellion? No. You're going to take a few steps, trip and fall, see the sky. He will take you into his warm embrace. Darkness.

First things first.

1. To learn to avoid danger and defend yourself, you need to start with identifying your boundaries. What are you uncomfortable with? What will you not accept? What kind of behavior would your friends and family be outraged about if they heard? This is a guide on self-defense up to the point of defending yourself by taking someone's life, but people don't typically end up in life or death scenarios with zero lead-up. There are usually many red flags and boundaries crossed before this happens. You need to have clear boundaries and learn to enforce them or you are not realistically prepared for any of the next steps.

2. Know your limitations. Consider your disabilities, plan for your worst day.

The following are in semi-sequential order.

1. Have situational awareness. Identify baselines for types of environments, particularly those you frequent, i.e. school, work, your neighborhood. Learn signs of danger, things that seem out of place.

2. Get in fucking shape. Start with something you like. Strength train. Get that booty. Get strong so you can lift your grandpa out the tub idk

3. Learn some martial arts. Don't make running your go-to option. Join a gym. or look it up on youtube. Learn how to punch, kick, take someone to the ground.

4. Learn how to run. Learn how to not fall. If there's a good chance to run, do so, but think that if you're in a closed area or out of shape, you may not be able to get out of there. Running isn't a safe bet, you're starting a race with an aggressor.

5. Get a fucking gun. Become comfortable with it and train rigorously, including in stressful environments. If you are forced to draw the weapon, you need to have training to fall back on.

6. Get off substances (like alcohol). Even lessen use of caffeine. These dull your senses and keep your body functioning less than 100%.

7. Carry non-lethal weapons. Flashlight to blind and pepper gel or spray.

This isn't about not running. It's about preparing. It's about learning strategy for self-defense. You can run, but maybe you'll need that little time that blinding someone with a flashlight will give you.

Stay dangerous.
